Music inspired by a journey to the Sahara in southern Algeria in May 2025. I heard a couple of the songs over the stereo of the battered Landcruiser with which we travelled this extraterrestrial landscape. Other songs are from this region or simply seemed to fit the mood. Weiterlesen
This year’s collection of Other Christmas Carols. As usual a highly arbitrary sample of inspiring and reflective tunes. I find the lyrics of the Bach Motette „Jesu, meine Freude“, BWV 227, as performed by the Collegium Vocale Gent particularly befitting: „Trotz dem alten Drachen / trotz des Todes Rachen / trotz der Furcht dazu! / Tobe, Welt, und springe / ich steh hier und singe / in gar sichrer Ruh!“
Im März und April 2024 habe ich gemeinsam mit Apollonia Stoisits eine Reise durch den Süden der USA unternommen. Ein Thema unserer Recherche war Country Music. Ganz lang hieß es auch für mich „anything but country“. KönnerInnen wie Dolly Parton oder Johnny Cash (im Bild das Haus seiner Kindheit und Jugend in Dyess, Arizona) waren die Ausnahmen, die das billige Vorurteil bestätigten.
